Summer-ize Your Body for More Energy

Summer-ize Your Body for More Energy

Not loving the hot weather?

Finding it hard to maintain your energy level?

The human body is required to adapt to a constantly changing environment and the heat of summer places particular stress on your body and health.

According to “Right as Rain” by UW Medicine:

“When it’s hot your body sends fluid and blood to the surface of your body to cool down. This depletes some of your body’s resources and can leave you feeling tired.”

Your body’s ability to sweat adequately for the purpose of cooling and detoxification is important during summer months. Sweating causes both a person’s heart rate and metabolic rate to increase, which can consume massive amounts of energy. Excessive sweating can make you extremely tired and sleepy.

If your adrenals are weak, your body can’t balance salt and potassium. Correct balance of these two minerals is necessary for good health and simply feeling good. But, in the process of sweating, you can lose vital nutrients which need to be replaced.

For example, the key mineral magnesium can be lost by sweating and during exercise. This may not seem all that important until you realize that magnesium is required to monitor heart rate, blood pressure, blood vessel constriction, muscular contraction and is a component of over 300 chemical processes in the body.

It’s advisable to keep a supply of salt, potassium, magnesium, and electrolytes on hand and take as needed.

Heat Safety Tips

These heat safety tips come from Princeton University:

  • “Stay hydrated throughout the day by drinking water steadily; don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
  • “Avoid caffeine and alcohol which cause us to lose water more rapidly.
  • “Take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors in an air-conditioned space.
  • “Wear loose fitting, lightly colored and lightweight clothes.
  • “Minimize use of heat-generating appliances like stoves or ovens.
  • “Do not exercise outdoors. If you must exercise outdoors, only exercise in the early morning hours, before 8 a.m.
  • “Take cool showers or baths to cool down.”

How Nitric Oxide can help with Energy Levels

Nitric oxide is a molecule that’s produced naturally by your body, and it’s important for many aspects of your health.

Nitric oxide is a gas that diffuses rapidly across cellular membranes and is involved in many physiological processes. When released inside the body, this gas quickly and easily penetrates cells, promoting optimal, physiological function.

Nitric oxide is produced 3 ways in your body:

  • It is secreted by the cells in the inner lining (endothelium) of your blood vessels.
  • It is converted by oral bacteria from your intake of nitrates from the foods you eat.
  • It is created by bacteria on your skin when you are exposed to adequate amounts of sunlight.

Benefits of Having an Optimum Nitric Oxide Level in your Body

Better Utilization of Nutrients and Oxygen

Nitric oxide production is essential for overall health because it allows blood, nutrients and oxygen to travel to every part of your body effectively and efficiently.

Improved Energy Level

Given that nitric oxide contributes directly to blood flow, oxygen delivery, glucose uptake, muscle velocity, power output, and muscle growth, a higher nitric oxide level may enhance your general energy level.

Enjoy a stress-free, active and healthy summer season by summer-izing your body.
